About Alpha Tau
Rethinking cancer care from the inside out.
Our Mission
Alpha TAU began with a simple but powerful insight: we believe that cancer patients should receive powerful therapy, delivered directly into the tumor, and without the harsh side effects.
The Unmet Need
In the current cancer treatment landscape, most types of cancer are treated by systemic therapies and external beam radiation. However, these therapies typically cause damage to the surrounding healthy tissue as well as to the cancer cells, potentially causing side effects. Plus, these therapies are often given in small doses and stretched over many cycles or fractions. We knew there had to be another way.
The Solution
With this insight, we developed the Alpha DaRT®, a technology designed to harness the naturally powerful properties of alpha particles to treat the tumor with precision, while potentially sparing nearby healthy cells. With the Alpha DaRT, our mission is to allow patients to receive an ultra-high dose of localized treatment in a single session with minimal side effects.
This is Our Purpose
Extending curative treatment beyond existing options
Targeting high-unmet-need cancers without effective current standards of care
A localized approach to amplify systemic treatment

Honoring Professor Itzhak Kelson (1940 – 2025) co-inventor of Alpha DaRT and pioneer in applied physics and cancer care, remembered for his brilliance, humility, and warmth.
Professor Itzhak Kelson was not only a visionary physicist but also a humble and kind human being whose warmth and intellect touched everyone around him. He leaves behind a legacy that has changed the landscape of cancer treatment. As an inventor of the groundbreaking Alpha DaRT (Diffusing Alpha-emitters Radiation Therapy) technology in 2003, Prof. Kelson’s scientific insight laid the foundation for what would become a transformative approach in cancer treatment, bringing hope to countless patients worldwide.
A central figure in Alpha Tau’s scientific journey, Prof. Kelson served as Chief Physics Officer, where his deep understanding of nuclear physics, radiation behavior, and applied research shaped the strategic and technological direction of the company. His pioneering work helped bridge the gap between theoretical physics and real-world medical application, leading to the development of Alpha DaRT as a new modality in targeted oncology.
Beyond his contributions to Alpha Tau, Prof. Kelson had a distinguished academic career. He was an Emeritus Professor and former Chairman of the Department of Physics at Tel Aviv University, where he inspired generations of students, researchers, and colleagues. His academic journey spanned prestigious institutions including the Weizmann Institute of Science, Yale University, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, the University of Wisconsin, and Brookhaven National Laboratory. Wherever he taught or conducted research, he was recognized not only for his brilliance but also for his generosity, mentorship, and unwavering commitment to scientific excellence.
Colleagues remember Prof. Kelson not just as a leading physicist, but as a deeply humane individual – generous, modest, and always with a smile. He had the rare ability to lighten even the most intense scientific discussions with a humorous anecdote or a well-timed joke. He fostered an atmosphere of excellence and also of great fun, making him a beloved mentor and much missed friend.
